Product information

Description

This variety of Konro grill is a compact, square charcoal grill made from Banko-yaki — the heat-resistant pottery of Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture. Built with the same two-part design found across traditional konro grills, the outer ceramic body holds a shallow amount of water during use, and the white inner ceramic tray holds the charcoal. The square format keeps the grill focused and space-efficient, well-suited to single skewers or smaller cuts cooked over direct charcoal heat.

Banko clay's low thermal conductivity holds heat steadily and intensely once the charcoal is established, using significantly less fuel than conventional outdoor grills. The inner tray can be transferred directly to a gas burner to light the charcoal before being returned to the outer body — a practical feature for indoor setups. The outer body is glazed in matte black; the grill includes a wooden trivet to protect surfaces and stabilize the stove during cooking. Always ensure water is in the outer basin before lighting.

Misuzu Pottery Co is a Banko ware manufacturer based in Mie Prefecture. This region is the primary production center for Banko-yaki — a ceramic tradition dating to the 18th century, recognized for clay that withstands the repeated thermal stress of open-fire cooking.
