Kiso Hinoki Cutting Board Square by Yamacoh

Daidokoro (kitchen) is a series from Youbi (Yamacoh) that offers a wonderful presentation and stellar design for classically Japanese kitchen items. This unique, square cutting board offers 2 trimmed corners for convenient lifting and serving. 

Kiso, grown in the mountains of the Kiso Valley in Nagano Prefecture, is one of the finest Hinoki woods in Japan. Characterized by its faintly pink surface and wonderful natural smell, Kiso is a straight grained and durable soft wood that is naturally antibacterial. Kiso dries quickly, which makes it easy to use and maintain. 

Yamacoh, founded in 1972, is based in Natsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, specializes in natural wooden products. Their Youbi brand can be described as ‘functional beauty.’ Youbi’s wood products are primarily made from Japanese Cypress, Hinoki and Sawara. These skilled craftsmen produce refined products that are delicately lined, with smooth beautiful surfaces.

Care and use: This cutting board is made from 2-3 pieces of Hinoki. Care should be taken when using this product. Please keep in mind this is a highly absorbent wood and it can warp or crack if exposed to excessive heat or rapid temperature changes. 

-Try to briefly wet the board with water before any use and or cleaning with soap or bleach. 

-Try to avoid excessive use of soap or bleach. This may damage the natural oils in the wood.

-Avoid putting the board away wet. Hand drying with a towel generally works well. 

-Avoid storing the board in damp, humid or excessively hot areas. And avoid direct sunlight.

-The wood may have slight staining, which is the natural oil of the wood, this is normal. 

Please note: Untreated raw wood may warp over time. Likewise, there is the possibility of small cracks to occur in the wood. We do not accept returns for warped or cracked wood.
