Product information

Description

The Shapton Kuromaku #5000 bridges the gap between medium sharpening and fine finishing. At 5000 grit, this stone refines the edge left by a coarser stone, removing the scratch pattern and beginning the transition toward a polished, razor-sharp edge. It is an ideal next step after the #1000, and works particularly well on Japanese knives where a refined, toothy edge is desired before moving to a higher grit finish.
Like all stones in the Kuromaku series, the #5000 requires no soaking. A splash of water is all that is needed before sharpening. The ceramic abrasive cuts smoothly and consistently, leaving a clean, even scratch pattern that sets up beautifully for a final polish.
Shapton is a Japanese manufacturer based in Shizuoka Prefecture, widely regarded as one of the finest whetstone producers in the world. The Kuromaku series — also known as the Shapton Professional series — is trusted by professional sharpeners and serious home cooks alike for its speed, consistency, and durability.
