Product information
Description
Tenbushi is a traditional bamboo chopstick from Japan, with an aesthetic that’s enhanced by the natural shape of bamboo. The characteristic bump towards the end of the plant is what gives tenbushi chopsticks their unique shape.
Made from wakatake, which is young bamboo, these chopsticks are hand painted and precisely planed, resulting in crisp edges and a fine tip.
Traditionally tenbushi have been used for celebrations and holidays, such as Setsubun and Higan, but more commonly these chopsticks are used for daily meals as tori, or toribashi, which is a type of serving chopstick used for communal dishes.
The painted portion of the chopsticks are coated with urethane, making it safe and durable to use for various cooking and serving methods.
Yamacoh, founded in 1972, is based in Natsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, specializes in natural wooden products. Their Youbi brand can be described as ‘functional beauty.’ Youbi’s wood products are primarily made from Japanese cypress, hinoki and sawara. These skilled craftsmen produce refined products that are delicately lined, with smooth beautiful surfaces.
