Azmaya's rice paddle is a handmade work with a glossy smooth surface and precise edges. Featuring a beautiful finish that shows the natural wood grain, unique to each individual piece. Each rice paddle is stamped with Azmaya's company crest, representing true craftsmanship.

The rice paddle is made from catalpa, which is a softer wood that's popular for furniture making. It's easy to work with and stands out with its attractive color and tone.

Azmaya recommends soaking the rice paddle in water for at least a few minutes prior to use. And just before scooping your rice, shake off the excess water from the paddle. This method prevents rice from sticking to the wooden paddle. Additionally, as with most natural wood kitchenware, the moisture in the wood significantly helps give you a firm grip. This is especially true with hinoki wood chopsticks and saibashi.

To get the most life out of your wooden kitchenware, limit the use of soaps and detergents, as these products strip away the natural oils of the wood. Without this oil, the wood breaks down much faster, which results in bending, cracking and dryness.

Azmaya, a Tokyo based company, has been operating since 1997. Azmaya collaborates with designers, artisans and small local manufacturers to create tools and crafts for everyday living. The company offers many items with the traditional Japanese aesthetic in mind.
