Seiro Steamer Basket Set by Yamacoh

In Japanese cuisine, mushimono refers to steamed dishes, such as chawanmushi, a savory egg custard. A seiro is the traditional steamer used to prepare mushimono. Often made from hinoki or bamboo, the typical cooking method uses small bowls or cups, which are placed in the steamer to cook. This steamer can accommodate 4 smaller cups.

This steamer fits perfectly in the Dantsuki Seiro Pot. A useful accessory when steaming is a steamer cloth, which works well with rice and much more. This particular lid, that simply sits on top of the container, is the western style lid from Kyoto, it’s known as nosebitsu.

To use, simply place the basket over simmering water and steam. The Dantsuki Pot works very with this method because the inner ledge holds the seiro in place.

Precautions

• Before using for the first time, it’s recommended to steam the empty basket for 5-10 minutes to prepare for use.
