A hand-made steamer with natural, timeless aesthetic combined with practical, everyday usability makes this a cherished item for those that enjoy steamed meals.

Daidokoro (kitchen) is a series from Youbi (Yamacoh) that offers a wonderful presentation and stellar design for classically Japanese kitchen items.

This Wappa Seiro steamer comes in an attractive Paulownia box (perfect for a gift) and includes the steamer, steamer lid, bamboo base, a wooden divider and a pamphlet with an overview of the product. This steamer fits perfectly in the Dantsuki Seiro Pot. A useful accessory when steaming is a steamer cloth, which works well for rice and much more. This particular lid, that simply sits on top of the container, is the western style lid from Kyoto, it’s known as Nosebitsu.

A Seiro is a type of steamer made from wood. Japanese Seiros are usually made of Cedar or Cypress (Hinoki), while Chinese steamers are made from Bamboo. The two types of steamers serve the same function. They work very well at uniformly heating and cooking a wide variety of items. A Seiro is an essential tool for steamed buns, or Bao. But there are many uses for a Seiro, including reheating rice, which gives wonderful results. A steam cloth is recommended for easy cleanup.

Using a Seiro is pretty straightforward and easy to do. Simply place the basket over simmering water and steam. The Dantsuki Pot works very with this method because the inner ledge holds the Seiro in place.

A Wappa Seiro (Magewappa) utilizes a traditional steam-bending woodcraft technique, which began generations ago in Odate, Akita Prefecture, and creates a truly unique and beautiful piece. The main body of the vessel is formed from a single sheet of wood and wrapped into a cylinder. Additional pieces are added, depending on the use.

Yamacoh, founded in 1972, is based in Natsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, specializes in natural wooden products. Their Youbi brand can be described as ‘functional beauty.’ Youbi’s wood products are primarily made from Japanese Cypress, Hinoki and Sawara. These skilled craftsmen produce refined products that are delicately lined, with smooth beautiful surfaces.
